Biography: Jordan Posamentier
EDUCATION Jordan Posamentier (poz-uh-men-TEER) earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center in Houston, Texas (2006), where he was Chief Notes and Comments Editor of the Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy and Co-Editor in Chief of the Law Center's newspaper. Jordan also holds a Master of Science in education with a specialization in music from Queens College in Flushing, New York (2003), and a Bachelor of the Arts in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine (2001).
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND Jordan has been practicing with Marion's Inn since December 2006. During Jordan's law school tenure, he served in two semester-long internships and two summer associateships: one internship through the University’s Health Haw Clinic as an ethicist at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Clinical Ethics Service; the other, through the University's Mediation Clinic where he mediated dozens of small claims cases in Houston's Justice of the Peace Courts; one summer associateship with Children's Legal Services of Houston; the other, for the in-house legal department of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation.
COMMUNITY SERVICE Jordan currently serves on the board for the non-profit Northern California chapter of Compassion & Choices. He has also volunteered as a tutor and facilitator in community workshops, prisons, and homeless shelters around the country.
PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS In addition to the California Bar, Jordan is a member of the bars of the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Northern Districts. He is also a member the Alameda County Bar Association. Jordan gave a talk at Boalt Law School at the University of California, Berkeley (November 2007) on end of life decision making and the law. He has also authored the following publications: Firing Undocumented Workers Might be Unlawful, 35 Oakland Business Review 6 (Oakland Metroplitan Chamber of Commerce: June 2007); On Hiding the Ball, Legalese: Law School Paper (University of Houston Law Center: Spring 2005); The Futility of Voting, Off the Wall: College Paper (College of the Atlantic: Fall 2000); Abolishing the Death Penalty, The Indiana Daily Student: University Newspaper (Indiana University: Spring 1999).
He currently resides in San Leandro, CA, with his longtime sweetheart, Maria, and his matzah ball of a cat, Matzi.
